How critical is it for chickens to roost at night?

We are chicken sitting and the chickens won't go to the upstairs of the coop tonight. The upstairs part is closed off at night. The downstairs is covered with chicken wire. Is it critical that we get them up for their safety or can they stay in the lower part of the coop for one night? They can always go up if necessary, but it won't be closed off. Are they are greater risk to predators?

How long do chickens have to stay in their incubator?

I'm pretty sure that its 24 hours after hatching, but then I'm not sure what I should do after that. Do I put them straight in the coop, that seems a little early. Some Sort of Crow Omen?

My husband was walking to the store early this morning, when suddenly a crow dropped a large piece of ice at my husbands feet, flew to the power lines and perched himself there to quietly observe the rest of my husbands journey to the store and his return to our front porch. Coincidentally, it was the same chunk of ice my husband had slipped on just a few minutes before (where of course he fell again half a dozen times before the arrival of our crow friend...) From there he quietly urged me to the sidewalk where the mysterious creature was still watching us silently. As we retreated inside away from the cold of the morning, the great bird let out a loud 'caw' and flew away. I thought it was quite amusing that a crow should take a piece of ice in his possession and purposely set it in front of my husbands feet. The crows are known to be a bit mischievous, but is this also perhaps an omen of some sort?

Ok, I have this invention i am trying to build. It is a motionless generator, no moving parts made up of a crystal( created by me). This crystal is the responsible for power storage and movement. Well the math i have done to determine the viability says the generator can run for 6months in one charge..the math is very complex but i do trust it. I'm pretty superstitious and yesterday I was walking and a raven was following me for about a block. It would sit on the telephone wire cawing and when I would pass it, It would fly close to my head and swoop up to the telephone wire ahead of me and start cawing again. I always read stories of moms having these fuzzy, gushing, loving feelings towards their little ones right away- but I just don't have that. I care about my little girl, but I feel like I haven't "bonded" with her yet. I was a super active person before having a baby, and now I am cooped up in the house 24/7. I EBF and I don't have a pump yet. In fact, I am scared to pump because I feel like I don't know what I am doing, if it will cause oversupply, etc. My little girl only sleeps well when she is laying on my chest. I know it is "bad", but she sleeps on my chest every night while I am laying on the couch. My poor DH sleeps on the floor next to us. We have hardly spent any time together, as he only had 3 days off of work after I gave birth. I have a lovely mom who comes over 3 days a week, and I always feel better when she is hear. I'm not sure if this is PPD, but I am so scared of having it. I want to keep BFing, and i'm afraid i won't be able to if i have to take some kind of medication. I just want to be the best, happiest mom for my little girl and love her with all my heart, but I just feel like I am not in that place yet. Is this PPD or just the Baby Blues?

Most of our yard is paved; Can we still keep chickens?

We live in an urban downtown area on 1/10th of an acre; obviously, our house takes up most of that, and our fenced in yard is paved over for a car pad. The area is about 30 ft x 30 ft; I would love to have a small chicken coop (we also plan to build raised vegetable gardens on the car pad), but I am not sure if the chickens will be okay on concrete. There is a small grass area on the other side of the house, within the fencing, and we have a grassy front lawn (unfenced) about the same size as the car pad area.

Why is my mom so annoying!?

I get in trouble for playing on my computer, I just lock myself up in my room. Then my mom whines that I'm on the computer too much. Then when I want to go outside, which IS often, she says 'no'. She thinks someone might 'grab me' I'm old enough to go outside, and hang out with my friends. But no. So now, I'm suffering from depression, because my family is screwed up, I can't hang out with my friends, and school is almost over, the only time I even kinda have fun, because I can't do ANYTHING while I'm at home. I sneak outside when she's gone, but come back in before she finds out. Though she is really starting to piss me off because she won't let me do a single thing. Two broody hens together, and broken eggs?

We have two broody hens in a ratproof coop. They take turns in sitting on the eggs that they laid between them as they were all gathered together by one of them. Two have hatched successfully and the chicks are thriving. However I have found two eggs outside their nest, one about three feet away and both were broken with a dead chick inside. One was almost fully formed and the other was still red and tiny. Should I take one broody out and just leave one in? Will it make any difference to the chicks doing this? Why are these eggs so far from the nest and how did they get there? Please can somebody help as I don't want to lose any more chicks.

In this case one of your dominant chickens figured out that that chicken was weak and vulnerable. And killed it because to them its one less bird to compete for food with. This chicken could have also been carrying a disease and they figured it out and killed it good luck.

Please help! Why can't my boyfriend's dog control his bladder?

Take him to the vet. It sounds like he has a UTI or something else going on. Dogs don't like urinating in places where they "live" (i.e. near their bed or an area they frequent inside), so I don't think he's doing it on purpose to get you to let him outside.

I have hit my breaking point! Any advice?

I am 18 and I completely had a melt down yesterday. I have had bad anxiety/depression that I have been trying to hide for a few years. I didn't want my parents to have to deal with two mentally ill kids becuase they have a lot of trouble dealing with my sisters bipolar disorder. Anyway my stress and anxiety has been building and building as i get older and feel like I need to be more on my own. I have never really gotten along with my sister because we are polar opposites and she has never been nice to me my anger towards her keeps getting stronger so much that i don't even want to be around her or hear her in the house. I feel so trapped here because my anxiety keeps at home all though I desperately need to get out and have other things to focus on. Anyway yesterday she was singing and playing the piano as usual and I got irritated and yelled at her to shut up, she then started cussing me out at the top of her lungs and I snapped in went after her pulling her hair and hitting her. It scared me because it is so out of character for me and even though I don't like my sister I wouldn't physicaly fight with her. I was panicing the whole rest of the day and ended up revealing my anxiety/depression to my parents. My parents are obviously pissed and I am grounded for the first time in my life (I have never liked getting into trouble). My parents will not let me be in contact with my boyfriend at all for a week which I am having a lot of trouble with because he is the person I am closest with in my life and I don't have other friends. I really feel like I should be talking him or out of the house I know they are trying to punish me for what I did but keeping me cooped up and isolating me is making it worse =(

I'm irish. You can get tea in australia in irish pubs and irish shops on internet. I imagine in england would be the same. Just try irish pubs and google on line for irish foods you might get it that way. My favourite irish tea is Barrys Gold Blend Tea. It's in red box. When i come overseas i even bring tea with me or get it posted over as it expensive to buy in the pub. Also i drink it with lil bit milk. Tea leaf tea is best but the tea bag will do when abroad. A lot of irish definitely have milk with it. Depends if they like it hot or not. I don't put sugar in it. Some do some don't. Depends on the individuals tastes. Hope that helps a bit. I agree with the other two responses. 4 days is a little too early for you too really notice. Now assuming that they are fertile, you should see the outlining a small little chick when you check again on day 10. If you don't see anything by that time they are duds and will not hatch so discard them. Also mark the eggs that are under you broody hens, chances are if you have other egg laying hens they will try to lay their eggs in that spot. So everyday check and remove any that added. I've had 5 hens that have hatched their chicks out side one hatched it under the stairs and the rest inside of the coop. You wanna make sure that the place that she is brooding is protect from the elements. The chicks will hatch on day 20-22.

It was a fair decision. The ABs did well but were also expected to do well. The All Whites made it to the world cup for only the second time and dropped out after the first round though they were undefeated. It was a great effort especially as one of their draws was against Italy.

My schedule is kind of odd from many, I work usually from 330 or 5 in the evening til night and ALL day Sunday and Saturday's. So I tend to eat late, sleep late during the week, etc. I live on my own with my fianc� who has lost weight just from not having money to eat out! So its hard to buy super healthy foods. But I am starting a 7 day cleanse with a supplement to kick start, and then I will start my diet with oxy elite pro. I feel lazy and tired all the time, I get pain in my knees and hips on weekends when I'm on my feet the most, I'm always up so late cause I never get actually tired enough to want to sleep but then I can't roll out of bed Til 12pm. I am 5'9 and about 174 pounds, I'm 19. I've been around 158 before and I have pictures from that time, I miss my clothing fitting looser! It's been a stressful year between graduating high school last year and gearing up for school this fall. I moved into a 2 story apartment intentionally to try and get my knees working daily on the stairs which has helped the pain (I have hypermobile knees so the muscles are very limber), I'm not buying diet soda anymore switching to juices and water, buying bran cereals not the sugary stuff, fruits, lean meats, protien meal bars for my double shifts to avoid eating ITALIAN! I work in a restaurant makes things harder. I buy crystal light as well, etc. What advice do you have for me?! Anything from staying motivated to exercise that will get me fit and down to a healthy 155-160, not so I can wear a size 7. Sizes don't phase me it's what I see in the mirror that I care about. I used to have a bad attitude about my body and never lost weight til I calmed down, but again stress has gotten me this year. No excuses, ready to do this thing so by new years I can make a whole different resolution!!!! :)

Why don't my chickens lay as much as eggs as my uncle's chickens?

i have three polish chickens and they are like a year old and i have one silkie who is about 3 years old. i gave my uncle three polish chickens (when i bought my polish chickens it came in 15 chicks and i gave three of them to my uncle and i kept three and ii gave the rest away). so my polish chickens are the same exact age as his. we give them the same exact food and we care for them the same way. my chickens lay like 3 eggs a week and his chickens each lay 1 egg a day. why dont mine lay that many eggs? the only thing thats different is that they have a proper chicken coup with a box to lay their eggs. is that why? i dont have room in my yard to build a chicken coop

Dog won't stop chewing on stuff?

I have a 6 month old dog, we believe he has separation anxiety because he goes nuts when we leave the room or place him into his crate for the night, goes nuts not being around one of us period. We have been putting him in the crate since he was 3 months old for at night, so by now you would think he is used to it. Well, my husband and I work during the day. I just started work about a month ago and since I started work, he has been acting up.I leave him out of the crate because it is just not right to have a dog crate up all night and day. So, he has toys and our kitten to play with while we work. I work from 5am- 2pm, so I always come home before my husband and my husband does not leave the house until 8am so the dog is not alone for too long. However, I come home and he has chewed on anything he can find, including our furniture yet he has a whole bunch of toys and chew toys out. He goes after our things when we are gone. We literally leave nothing on the floor (except furniture obviously and his toys) and he'll chew on the end tables, the coffee table, the sofa, and even the half wall AND carpet! I don't want to get responses with people saying to leave him in the crate or to leave him outside. I can't leave him in the crate because that it too many hours cooped up from sleeping in there at night and we are not allowed to leave our dog outside in our rented neighborhood, they will charge us. So what are my options with the dog to have him stop chewing? He's costing us money to have to fix things in this place and our furniture and belongings are getting destroyed.

this wrong? My father owns a small farm. Now it's not a business or anything, just a hobby of his. Sometimes he raises chickens. Now, these chickens run around a large area on the farm, protected by a fence to keep out the foxes and other predators, etc, but not quite the hawks. They just run around and eat up nasty bugs like ticks, etc (which protects my legs!) and of course grains. Sometimes they do get loose and go off in the woods to lay their eggs, though can't say I have ever seen them hatched, likely gotten snatched up by predators. Anyway, they're pretty much free, and they do have a coop, a very large clean one, and we collect eggs from them. We don't even sell them off to large companies that mistreat them. They are specifically for our family, well, my grandparents too and the tenants.They aren't exactly suffering from high mortality rates or being butchered or suffocated or electrocuted alive. So, do you consider my family's "farming methods", if that's what I can call it, as an example of animal cruelty/exploitation because we eat their eggs? I'm just trying to get an understanding of where you stand; usually, I see it on the extreme end and some of it (not all) borders on ridiculousness or one-sidedness.

Looking for a board game like Arkham Horror?

I'm looking for a board game that resembles the coop play of Arkham Horror. I know there are a lot of games where it's 3 against one or so on and that's really not what I'm looking for. What would you consider "Fever Free"?

My 2 and 3 year old both came down with a virus a week ago. After 3 days of fever my son(2) has been healthy but my daughter (3) has continued to have a fever off and on. I took her to the doctor who thought the same thing I had, just a virus and that she did not expect her fever to continue much longer. Yesterday (day 7 of fever) she was fevered part of the day (99-101) and fine other parts, eating and acting normal except for a little more sleepy when the fever was present. Today so far (knock on wood) nothing above 99.5 and she is acting fine. If her temp goes above 100 today I plan on calling the doctor back, but otherwise do you think a temp below 100 but above 98.6 would still be considered "fever free?" She has been cooped up a week, and is begging to be able to play with her friends. I don't want to risk exposing anyone to an illness, and was waiting until 24 hrs fever free to allow her to play with her friends, but wondering if I even need to worry with a slight temp below 100? What would you do?

Why won't my Eevee evolve?

i'm playing Pok�mon Crystal (Old i Know) and i have a Level 44 Eevee that won't evolve, i don't want it to evolve with one of the stones, i want either and Umbreon or an Espeon, i've been getting it "hair cuts" given it a couple of rare candies, and the woman in Goldenrod City says "it looks sort of happy", i don't know what else i can do to make its happiness rise, but i don't want it to be an Eevee forever, plus i have no idea where to even get the stones if i had to resort to them... anyone know of any ways to raise its happiness or anything that would contribute to it's evolution

Is asbestos visable in vinyl flooring,or fiberglass?

Ripped up some vinyl that was installed around 1982. Didn't think about asbestos, but afterwards I looked at the back of a piece I ripped up and saw tiny little crystal like fibers in the sunlight, like micro fishing line. Looks like fiberglass. Does asbestos look like this? It has a grayish backing like construction paper. I have been worrying this could be asbestos but read asbestos isn't visable. This material sparkled in sunlight. Does anyone know if this is asbestos? I'm don't know if they make fiberglass vinyl flooring or when it was made.

Where did it come from? How was it decided? Raising Backyard Chickens?

I just moved onto a 30 acre farm and live next to my landlord who has a portable chicken coop that he moves around his 'side' of the property where all the hens are free range. He is allowing me to get chickens and ducks (we also have a small pond). Since we are on a lease I cannot build a permanent coop, if I were to build a portable chicken coop would my chickens join his flock or would they stay in our yard? Forever Bound To My Own Sorrow?

Well for a while now I've been spiraling down into depression and I'm finding it hard to cast it away, I myself feel like it's time for me to "move on" but it's been hard considering the fact that I am cooped up on my home all day unable to leave,I have nothing that I can do for entertainment and I every few hours or so I suddenly black out for at least an hour and find myself on the floor with an alchemy circle on my stomach. It's not satanic, I have already looked it up,it's a traditional Italian alchemy circle. Does anyone have any suggestions for me. Ok, I have this invention i am trying to build. It is a motionless generator, no moving parts made up of a crystal( created by me). This crystal is the responsible for power storage and movement. Well the math i have done to determine the viability says the generator can run for 6months in one charge..the math is very complex but i do trust it. is this weird ? years back ago i was standing outside and a crow flew by me and while in the air it turned its head so quickly and looked me dead in the eyes and cawed at me. it gave me a weird feeling. a day lator i went to juvi. then while in it a crow was sitting at the traash can staring at me through the narrow window.... and when ever i am feeling depressed if i see a crow near me i feel comfort and relaxed. the cawing sounds so sweet to me.. i look around for them when i am down. they land extremly close to me. i may sound like im over rethinking things though... but... i just dont know how to explain it

Crystals causing a urinary blockage in cats?

My baby (my cat, Jack) was experiencing a similar thing to this. He would visit the litter tray every 10 minutes but nothing would come out, except blood. When I went to the vets, they gave him some antibiotics and he was fine. About a month later, the exact same thing happen. So they gave him antibiotics and it went away again. That's about all I can say, but I do feel like the vets didn't/haven't got to the bottom of it all. I do worry sometimes but that's about all I can say. I hope he is better soon. You could try another vet, just to get another opinion. I think its important to get more than one opinion because one ve my have there mid set completely on one thing when itcould be something else. Chicken Help!! Any suggestions?

I have a chicken, probably around 2-3 yrs old, we got her and some of her buddies on the 4th of April. About a month ago, we introduced some new young birds, gradually, and now everyone is co-existing well. On Friday, I noticed my big girl Biggie, had her comb was discolored and laying on her head (usually is erect and a bright red), she seemed very slow, delayed reactions and very careful about where she stepped. She's way out of it. She is not eating, depressed like, stays to herself, not interested in her free time (not even when everyone sounds the worm alarm and they go nuts) she'll just stand or lay there, not interested. There has been a few times where I see her yawning (like she's trying to dislodge some thing, but she's not gaging or choking) and she occasionally has a goober of drool from her beak. Her breathing is rapid, and she has some runny stool, but its not clumped on her bottom and she is not herself at all. The young birds were de wormed 2x prior before introduction, and the big girls were de wormed 2x before the introduction and as an entire flock they were de wormed after introduction. My husband cleans the entire coop ever 2-3 days, they are fed crumble, oyster shells every day, and corn 1 to 2 x a week thrown out in their paddock where they have free time. They get free time in a controlled setting, and are allowed to forage for bugs and on grass. I don't think she is laying, she's hardly walking or eating. We separated her to prevent the other girls from picking on her. Any suggestions. I was leaning towards coccidosis, however, labored breathing doesn't fit into the symptoms, and sour croup, but she doesn't have a smell? Any suggestions. I've tried all the vets around here, and none of them see chickens and yest we are in a rural area! ={ They suggest butchering her to prevent contamination of the rest of the flock.... ok if I need to , but I will not do that yet, because I don't know what it is and no other birds are displaying any of her symptoms. I found an injured crow in a parking lot. What should I do?

I found a crow rolling around and trying to stand/move in a parking lot. The poor thing seems skinny to me, and I think she may be a fledgling, although my mom says she looks like an adult... Neither of us know much about what fledglings are supposed to look like. She's a girl, and appears to have injured legs or feet, as she doesn't move them, but I did see her move one of them a little a few times... We brought her home, since vets are closed on Sundays, and gave her two jar lids, one with birdseed, and one with water. She ate and drank a little, and we put news paper under her. She seems to be feeling better; she's trying to move around. She can flap one wing for sure; the other, I'm not sure if it's hurt or not, I've seen her open both, but I'm not sure if she's actually flapped the other one. She opened her mouth a few times in the car, but I think it's because she was thirsty. And when we were outside (walking to the door) she made a few very quiet "caw"s, probably to the other crows in our tree. I'm guessing she got hit by a car, just enough to injure her, but not kill her, but I don't know. What should I do with the poor thing?

Can you help with a cloudy freshwater aquarium?

Ok, I have a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium, not too many fish, using the appropriate size filter, heater, etc. The tank was crystal clear for the first 2 months, then in the past week has gone really green cloudy. I suggest putting traps in multiple areas like under areas where they run to for cover. I wouldn't suggest catching one manually because they are filthy, and if they bite you, you could get sick.

Hi, basically I've taken several tests, each one has come up positive that I am a crystal child, I've held crystals and I've felt them vibrate in my hand when others haven't been able to. I'm irish. You can get tea in australia in irish pubs and irish shops on internet. I imagine in england would be the same. Just try irish pubs and google on line for irish foods you might get it that way. My favourite irish tea is Barrys Gold Blend Tea. It's in red box. When i come overseas i even bring tea with me or get it posted over as it expensive to buy in the pub. Also i drink it with lil bit milk. Tea leaf tea is best but the tea bag will do when abroad. A lot of irish definitely have milk with it. Depends if they like it hot or not. I don't put sugar in it. Some do some don't. Depends on the individuals tastes. Hope that helps a bit. My body is a thousand times further ahead than my brain?

I have something similar to autism and it's making me act all weird. I used to act perfectly fine . . . until social interaction came into my life. Why do crows follow me?

Although it sounds quite strange, crows seem to follow me. Whenever I go to a park or in to the woods, they literally FOLLOW me! Like, they jump from tree to tree to follow me when I'm walking allong. There are almost always crows in my yard when I arrive home. Yucky anaerobic compost?

We have a chicken run where the chickens kick out the hay from their coop onto the run floor. They are free ranged, but we have this small area jic. I was digging in there and there is some serious anaerobic stuff going on undernieth the hay they kicked down...smells like sewer..So, we rototilled itpretty well. My question is, will this stuff ever be good for compost? Can I add it to a healthy compost and have it be ok? I know the smell will go away once it dries out, but should I wait a year to use this area for a garden? We are going to move the coop and really let it dry and see what it looks like after that..

Help with varmint trouble?

ive have been having problems with an animal(s?). whatever it is has killed two of my chickens, my dad found one mangled corpse behind our small chicken coop without the head. what possibly could have done this, and how do i catch it? weve also had problems with something taking the lid off our chicken food container and getting in the food, how should i trap this animal? my uncle caught one young racoon in a pressure plate trap and disposed of it, but that only ended our problems for a little bit.

Once upon a time in a small tightly packed village, there lived a fairly young brown haired lemur. He had been cut out of his pack as his looks were too abnormal for his tribe to handle. This Lemur was called Harry and had a long thick beetle like nose with furry eyes with a black like fur bib over his tummy. So far you may be thinking "he seems like a pretty normal lemur to me" however it wasn't this that made his stand out. It was his personality. Looks can mean a simple term as appearance but also can mean his "looks" to other leamers; eg not taking to him. Harry lived in his lemur made cabin with dark wooden chairs and his best possession were his musical instruments. He would sit there for hours everyday playing his piano or belting out lemur 80's hits while eating cucumber at the same time. As much as he praised and treasured there instruments, he knew there was something miss in his long pointless life. Crystal clear tears ran down his smooth fur, making a sweet squeaky sound of upset. Insects, Hedgehogs and even wild cats were aware of this sound but not any lemers which he deep down knew he missed. There was one he particularly missed; her name was Hoops, spaghetti hoops, She had affectionate curls dangling from her head with naturally shinny deep blue eyes, but it wasnt her "looks" which made Harry weep deeper onto his rug, it was her kindness, friendliness her and he acceptance and even extra emotion for Harry. They had met at their local animal information group. Harry walked in not thinking of anything but his next musical project to work on. He walked past groups of teen lemurs demonstrating steetdancing and applying lipstick at top speed. He glared at them and felt a little jealous as he had always fancied putting lipstick on...Maybe if I have dazzling lips they will be my "frr frriied friend" he said. 'Hey" shouted the team lemar member of the group. "We are starting any minute now! Grab you furry bumed feline friends and hop aboard in the hall!" This was Miss Apple. She was very over excited about everything and a bit annoying. Suddenly breaking the silence was a loud crows with smelly perfumes on-the teen group came in. Follwed by the eldeey lemeras greeting all th eyoungoes. Harry snorted trying to be cool. Nearly every seat was filled now, only two remained. Harry looked around about to burst into tears but then jumped and fell on the ground as he has just lad eyes on Hoops! He was nervous but attracted and decided to take the risk...He went over and said Hi, Hoops went "Helle..I am new here...You look now too...Harry liked what he said...The other lemars sneered in a cool way. Hoops didnt say anything else..just stated into Harry'y eyes..Harry done the same to Hoops and not long after he invited her to his lonly life house. They spoke about roadworks and how they didnt like Miss Apple. Harry performed his newly made love song for her and she hugged him in a warm and gentle way. One day he suggested they went into the forest to get some fruit. Hoops said yes.."sounds fun". Harry jumped up and said "Yippie!" then looked at her lemer tail and smiled. " See you tomorrow" Harry saidto Hoops. Hoops looked at her curls with her small mirror and said "oh er bye". The next day they went into the forest, with Harry playing his trumped and Hoops talking about her fave clothes, shops and nuggets. Harry loved it. Doesn't sounds like much of a "little story", it sounds very complex. That was a compliment. I would suggest something like "The Night Life" or "Dual Lives" or something like that. Do you want the title to relate to the murder mystery, or the fact she has two different lives? Think about what is most important in the story.

I am a bit autistic or whatever and it's making me act all weird. I used to act perfectly fine . . . until social interaction came into my life. I want a small dog but my sister wants a big dog because we can keep it outside while were gone that way it won't get as lonely. ok my supposedly best friend has started to hang out with this other guy whom i hate and I'm envious/jealous of because the guy has such a positive *** attitude and it gets on my ****** nerve.
